To recognize and reward the entrepreneurs in our community who are thinking and creating in new ways, Makerspace North and Freewheeling Craft present PITCH PARTY, a competition and showcase for emerging modern makers to receive meaningful resources to boost their business.

You might be wondering, what's a Pitch Party? For us, it's an evening to celebrate modern makers in the Ottawa/Gatineau region and reward an emerging one. It's a showcase and competition, vying for the ultimate maker prize pack to advance and amplify a creative, maker business.

As a modern maker you:

– You see yourself as a brand rather than a collection of items you make
– You go to craft events to engage customers and community
– You have a business plan and goals
– You have a succinct pitch to describe your business

You should apply if you:

– Have Clear branding that carries throughout your product offering
– Beyond your grannies' craft market and you are selling to more than just your friends
– Have an ecommerce store or can demonstrate your plans to start one
– Local to Ottawa/Gatineau (50km radius)
– Can submit business plan with goals + timelines
– Have an executive summary that is a story about how you are going to make the prize pack work for you
– Create a one minute video intro
– Are willing to present a live three minute pitch
– Have attended at least 3 craft shows
– Have social media accounts

Meet Adam,

the winner of Pitch Party Fall 2017

My product speaks for itself. So when I had to get up in front of a bunch of strangers and tell ‘em why it means so much to me, it gave me a reality check.

A successful business is more than just a product: it’s an idea and a culture. It needs to become a part of conversation. Pitch Party is where you get to practice and figure out how to make that spark. And that’s what it’s all about.
